Bernard Myers has served on the IDS Board since 1997 and, for the last year, has held the position of Vice Chairman, a role now held by Robin Ellison, National Head of Pensions at Eversheds Solicitors.

Bernard Myers is heavily involved in Jewish and community activities and his other roles include being Assistant Governor of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Chairman of the Wingate Youth Trust and Chairman of the Harrow Citizens Advice Bureau.

The new Chairman describes his driving force at IDS as, “The satisfaction of seeing a tenant settled in a well-built home that is properly maintained and managed.”

IDS
IDS was formerly known as the Industrial Dwellings Society. It was established by a group of Jewish philanthropists in 1885 in order to relieve the overcrowding in the East End of London where the large population of new immigrants faced very poor housing conditions.

Today, IDS manages 1,300 properties in Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Southwark, Redbridge and Barnet. Its tenants still include Jewish people but are also reflective of the general ethnic mix of the communities where it operates. IDS has a modest development programme. Its aim is to provide accommodation to meet the needs of its traditional client group.

Bernard Myers
Bernard Myers is 56 years old. After reading Economics at the London School of Economics, he joined Arthur Andersen in 1965 and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1968 before joining N M Rothschild & Sons Limited in 1972. He was appointed a Director of the Bank in 1976 and was Finance Director until 1980. In July 1988, he became a Managing Director of N M Rothschild & Sons Limited, a position he held until his retirement in 1996.

He is currently a Consultant to N M Rothschild & Sons Limited and a Director of Rothschilds Continuation Limited. He is Chairman of Rothschild Private Trust Holdings AG, Rothschild Trust Corporation, Rothschild Trust Guernsey Limited and Rothschild Trust (Bermuda) Limited. In addition, Bernard Myers is Chairman of the Harrow Citizens Advice Bureau, Assistant Governor of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Chairman of the Wingate Youth Trust and a Trustee of the Ashten Trust
