At IDS, we believe our estates should be welcoming places for everyone. That’s why we have put together a packed calendar of events and activities for the whole year. It is a way of bringing us together, celebrating our many different cultures, and getting to know each other better. While some of the events are for all residents, some will be for certain schemes and some are focused on internal training for staff.
Highlights so far
We started this year with time for reflection on International Holocaust Remembrance Day. We also planted trees at Ajex House and Charlotte Court for Tu BiShvat, which was a nice chance to reflect on nature, and celebrated Chinese New Year. We received lovely feedback from residents who received personalised cards for Ramadan and the celebrations of Eid and Eid-ul-Fitr. This spring, we also had fun with Easter arts and crafts and scavenger hunts across our estates.
Join Us This May and June
We have a busy schedule planned to recognise the following dates:
- VE Day
- World Day for Cultural Diversity
- Shavuot and Eid-ul-Adha
- Pride Month and Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month
- Carers Week and World Refugee Day
We will be sharing information, holding activities, and creating chances to learn about these important occasions.
The Rest of the Year
Don’t miss out on what’s coming later this year.
- Summer: We will be holding community fun days across our estates.
- Autumn: We will acknowledge the Jewish High Holy Days, including sending out New Year cards for Rosh Hashanah.
- Winter: Get ready for a Diwali craft activity, celebrating Hanukkah with doughnuts and menorah lighting at Jewish sheltered schemes, and celebrating Christmas. We will also recognise UK Disability History Month.
This year is about making sure everyone in our IDS community feels seen, respected, and part of something to be proud of.
