Disability adaptions
If you rent your home with us and require an adaptation for it to be suitable to your specific needs, you must first speak with your Doctor. Your Doctor or an Occupational Therapist will assess your needs and contact us with their recommendations. We can only agree to adaptations that have been recommended to us by a medical professional. If the adaptations are minor we may contribute the amount in full on behalf of your local authority and carry out the works. If the works required to your home cost more than £1,000 you will need to have secured a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) to fund the adaptations you need, your local authority are obliged to pay for such alterations and will also manage the works on your behalf.
Our staff may be able to assist you with submitting any claim forms. Consideration may also be given to transferring you to a more suitable property if adapting your present home is not possible or practical.
Typical adaptations may include:
- Over-bath showers
- Level access showers
- Stairlifts
Other minor adaptations such as lever taps or grab rails may also be installed by us.
If there are other adaptations you are planning on doing yourself, then please let us know as you would need our permission first.
