We are committed to ensuring that all gas appliances and installations in our homes are safe and well maintained. As a landlord, we are required by law to complete an annual inspection on all your gas appliances and systems such as boilers, cookers, and gas pipes. Regular gas safety checks are vital not only for your own safety, but also to protect your neighbours and keep the whole community safe.

Your responsibilities

We will contact you 60 days in advance to arrange an appointment time for a gas safety inspection. It takes approximately 45 minutes to complete this important safety check. We ask that you top up both the electricity and gas meters in your home prior to the inspection. Please note, if access for the inspection is refused, we may need to take further action such as obtaining a court order.

What to do in an emergency

If you smell gas or suspect there’s a gas leak:

  • Turn off the gas supply at the meter.
  • Open windows and doors to ventilate the area.
  • Do not use electrical switches or naked flames.
  • Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.

Gas safety inspections allow us to make timely repairs and ensure you receive a reliable service. We can offer support if you need help understanding the importance of gas safety or accessing your home for checks. Please contact us at housing@ids.org.uk with any questions.
